Maisonet and McIntosh Named to NFCA Divsion I All-Northeast Region Team

Albany, N.Y. – Senior left fielder Amber Maisonet and sophomore pitcher Leah McIntosh were both named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-Northeast Region Second Team, as announced by the NFCA on Thursday afternoon.

Maisonet earned her first all-regional selection after a stellar senior season in which she was named to the All-America East Conference First Team for the fourth straight year. Maisonet batted .379 in her final season with the Great Danes, recording a team-high 61 hits and 33 runs scored. She also stole a league-leading 27 stolen bases and was first in the conference with five triples. Maisonet finished as the UAlbany career leader with 233 hits and 151 runs. She is also ranked second in career stolen bases with 96 and is fourth with a .360 batting average.

Maisonet was named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). After posting a 3.85 cumulative grade point average in psychology, Maisonet earned her first CoSIDA accolade. She moves onto the national ballot, with the Academic All-America team being announced on Wednesday, May 28. Maisonet, who also earned the ECAC Merit Medal this season, was named an NFCA Academic All-American as a junior and is a member of the UAlbany Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

McIntosh was named to the all-conference first team after leading the America East with a 1.57 ERA and finishing second with 217 strikeouts. McIntosh, who finished the season ranked 16th nationally with 9.8 strikeouts per seven innings, tossed two no-hitters as a sophomore and set a UAlbany Division I program record with 18 strikeouts in a seven-inning win over Manhattan. In just two seasons with the Great Danes, she stands third in career strikeouts with 375 and is eighth all-time with an ERA of 2.22. McIntosh was named the conference’s pitcher of the week on four occasions during the season.
