Princeton, N.J. – University at Albany’s Mike McCadney was victorious in the triple jump to lead his team’s performance at the 132nd Annual IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Princeton University’s Weaver Stadium on Sunday, May 18. The Great Danes finished fifth in the team standings with 39 points. The UAlbany women, led by a third-place finish by Jenn Gurrant in the triple jump, finished in a tie for 24th place at the ECAC Championship with 11 points.

McCadney, a junior from Rochester, N.Y., set a school record with his championship effort of 51-feet, 1.75-inches to claim UAlbany’s first triple jump crown in IC4A competition. McCadney became the fifth UAlbany athlete to win an IC4A outdoor title at the Division I level, joining Joe Greene, who captured the 400-meter hurdles in 2006 and 2007, Marc Pallozzi (2007, javelin) and Gered Burns (2005, 800-meters). McCadney, who won the America East title two weeks ago, recorded the ninth-best mark in the region this spring and will compete at the NCAA East Regional in Tallahassee, Fla. on May 30-31.

The men’s 4x100-meter relay team of Jean Juste, Dieuseul Joseph, Torshiro Jenkins and Jeffery Barnes placed third in a time of 41.35 seconds. Joseph, a defensive back on the UAlbany football team, finished sixth in the 100-meter dash finals, as he crossed the line in 10.94 seconds.

At the ECAC meet, Gurrant posted a jump of 41-feet, 7.75-inches to record the second-best performance in school history. Senior Arina Gerasimova finished seventh in the same event with a leap of 40-feet, 7.5-inches, while freshman Tiffany Sprenkels ended up in 17th place with a jump of 38-feet, 7-inches.

UAlbany head coach Roberto Vives was honored by the IC4A Track Coaches’ Association, an organization founded in 1918, for 25 years of collegiate service to the sport. Vives, who has been leading the Great Danes’ track and field program since 1985, was also the women’s head coach at Lehman College and spent a year as an assistant at the City College of New York.
