Princeton, N.J. – Sophomore Luke Schoen finished second in the pole vault to lead UAlbany performances at the 132nd Annual IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Princeton University’s Weaver Stadium on Saturday, May 17. The Great Danes are in fourth place with 20 points through eight events. The UAlbany women have three points through nine events.

Schoen, who was third at last season’s IC4A championship, placed second by clearing the bar at 16-feet, 10.75-inches. Freshman Michael Dempsey was ninth in the event with a height of 16-2.75. A pair of Great Danes finished in the top-five in the long jump. Sophomore Kyle Nadler finished second with an NCAA East Regional-qualifying leap of 24-feet, 4.25-inches, the second-best jump in program history. Classmate Valete Graham was fifth at 23-feet, 11.75-inches.

In the 100-meter dash trials, senior Dieuseul Joseph sprinted to a third-place finish in 10.63 seconds, just three one-hundredths of a second behind Junior Burnett’s school record of 10.60. The performance marked the third-fastest time in the school annals behind Burnett’s 10.60 and 10.61 at the 2007 Albany Spring Classic. In the 4x100-meter relay, Joseph led at quartet that included Jean Juste, Torshiro Jenkins and Jeffery Barnes to a second-place effort in the preliminaries. The relay sprinted a season-best time of 41.00 seconds, just 22 one-hundredths of a second off the school standard.

Freshman Wilfredo de Jesus Elias finished 12th in the hammer throw with a toss of 184-feet, 0-inches. Juste finished ninth in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles in 14.26 seconds, only one-hundredths of a second shy of qualifying for the finals. Junior Joe Greene finished 11th in the 400-meter hurdles in 52.62, missing the finals by just .27 seconds.

On the women’s side, junior Kamilah McShine finished 10th in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles in 14.11 seconds. McShine improved her time to 14.03 in the semifinals, but finished 11th overall and missed a spot in the championship field.

The Great Danes wrap up competition at the ECAC and IC4A championships on Sunday, May 18, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
